Pvt security agencies seek States’ support

Hyderabad, Oct. 4 The Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) has called upon State governments to speed up the process of recognising and licensing private security agencies.

“While the Government of India promulgated the Private Securities Regulation Act (PRSA) in 2005 to allow participation of the private sector in maintaining law and order situation, the State Governments need to act on this and bring in supporting legislations,” Mr N. Subramanyam, Chairman (AP Chapter), CAPSI, told newspersons here on Saturday.

“If there is proper recognition, CAPSI is capable of providing services to deal with any disaster management situations as many private security personnel are functioning in urban areas,” he said.

The availability of about 50 lakh trained private security personnel could enhance the rescue capability of the National Disaster Management Authority to a much greater extent, he added.

The association had submitted a memorandum to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to issue licences to private security agencies and allot land for setting up a training academy for rural youth, he said.

“The private security industry is growing at 25 per cent and there is huge employment potential for rural youth.

"We are working with different State Governments (including Rajasthan, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh) to provide training and later employment to select rural youth,” Mr Subramanyam said.

CAPSI is also in the process of signing MoU with the Governments of Punjab and Orissa in this regard.

“In addition, we will be signing a MoU with the Indira Gandhi National Open University to develop certificate and diploma courses for security guard and supervisors,” he added.
