Tea CTC rates dearer at N. Indian tea auctions Our Bureau Kolkata, Oct. 6 Last week, the CTC teas at north Indian auctions sold readily at fully firm to dearer rates, according to tea auctioneers. Western India dealers were active for liquoring categories, while other internal sections operated. Export buyers operated primarily for larger brokens and fannings. In the Darjeeling tea auction, the whole leaf and broken grades were easier, while fannings were around last. Traditional exporters and packeteers operated. There was selective enquiry from UK/Continent, while local buyers offered good support. Orthodox whole leaf and larger brokens were fully firm. Smaller brokens were firm to dearer, while fannings were steady at last levels. There was good support from West Asian and CIS shippers and fair enquiry from the major blender on the fannings. Leaf intake continued to be below that of the previous year. GLOBAL MARKETThe Mombasa market saw less demand particularly for PF1s, which were neglected. Kazakhstan and Sudan lent more support, while Yemen and other West Asian countries were active with maintained interest from Russia. There was less activity from Pakistan and Egyptian Packers, while the Egyptian Government sector showed some interest. Afghanistan and Bazaar were quiet, while the UK was very selective. Somalia was more active. More Stories on : Tea
