Tea ‘Tea sector picking up on rising demand’ Our Bureau Kochi, Oct 7 The tea sector, which as a whole was reeling under a crisis for the past several years, has now started picking up with the steadily increasing demand both from domestic and foreign market, Mr M.K. Ajit, Chairman of Tea Buyers Association, Kochi, has said. Addressing the 35th annual general meeting of the association, he said several other competing countries were also strengthening their foothold in the world market. This situation calls for the imperative need to make our teas more competitive in terms of quality and price. It is, therefore, highly essential for our tea gardens to step up productivity with a special thrust on the quality, he added. At the first meeting of the reconstituted Managing Committee of the Tea Buyers Association, Mr Ajit, was unanimously re-elected President for the year 2008-2009. Mr Mushthafa Moosa and Mr Jinesh C. Dagli were unanimously re-elected Vice-President and Secretary respectively. Mr Anil Kumar N. Prabhu, Mr Benzy Jose, Mr Krishnakumar J.
