New Business Consolidated Construction looking at new infrastructure projects
Mr K. Manivannan (right), President, Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd, and Mr R. Sarabeswar, Chairman and CEO, at a press conference in Chennai on Tuesday. — Our Bureau Chennai, Oct. 7 The Chennai-based Consolidated Construction Consortium Ltd, an infrastructure construction company, is widening its area of operations into heavy civil works and water treatment plants, according to the company’s Chairman and CEO, Mr R. Sarabeswar. Addressing a press conference to announce the company bagging a Rs 1,212-crore order from the Airports Authority of India to expand the Chennai airport terminal buildings, he said the order takes Consolidated Construction’s plane of operations to a bigger scale. This is the company’s largest order and opens up opportunities to bid for greenfield airport projects — in terms of size of operations. A number of projects are in the pipeline with State Governments announcing plans for new airports. Areas of operationThe company can now look at large orders of more than Rs 1,000 crore, while till now its projects were in the range of around Rs 100-200 crore. Consolidated Constructions has identified five areas of operations for itself — airports, seaports, power, water and environment and heavy and civil engineering. It is bidding for construction of cement and steel plants and is participating in water treatment projects, which are new areas of operations for it, he said. The water and environment division is a new division within the company and is implementing a Rs 26-crore order for a 54-million litre a day sewage treatment plant in the Delhi suburbs. It has also prequalified, along with Veolia, a French company, for a water supply project in Bangalore. The company is also into power plant construction, specifically balance of plant (other than boiler, turbine and generator) and is doing the piling works for BHEL’s North Madras Power Station, Mr Sarabeswar said. Airport projectOn the Chennai airport expansion project, he said Consolidated Construction has tied up with Herve Pomerleau International, a Canadian infrastructure company, for technical support. The expansion envisages increasing the airport’s passenger handling capacity to 16 million a year — four times its present capacity. In addition, the existing domestic and international terminals are to get a face lift. The expansion involves adding 74,500 sq m built-up space in the domestic terminal; providing a 47,000 sq m multilevel car park; 10,449 sq m substation; 1 km elevated road bridge and a surface level car park. The international terminal will get an additional 65,000 sq m built-up area; a 1 km elevated road; and a surface car park. Once the detailed letter of award is received from the authorities, the company will complete the project in 26 months, after the initial 30 day mobilisation period, he said. Consolidated Construction has also bagged the Rs 68-crore order for the Chennai airport cargo complex, Mr Sarabeswar said. More Stories on : New Business | Real Estate & Construction
