New Projects Monnet Ispat to offer coal washing tech Our Bureau New Delhi, Oct. 7 Sponge iron manufacturer Monnet Ispat & Energy Ltd (MIEL) has finalised plans to enter the services sector and provide total solution for setting up coal washeries. For this, it has tied up with Japan Coal Energy Centre (JCOAL) and Daniel of the US. While JCOAL will provide JIG technology, Daniel will provide Heavy Media Bath (HMB) technology to Monnet which the Indian company will use for setting up its captive washeries and also merchant washeries. “Coal washing is a business that is not seasonal. Providing total solution in the coal washery sector will position us as a service provider and with two technical tie-ups we will be able to handle all types of coal, irrespective of its ash content,” the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Sandeep Jajodia, said. single window contractorThe company is also trying to position itself as a single window EPC contractor to set up coal washeries for third parties as well, he said. “Coal India had earlier announced plans to set up 29 coal washeries, both for coking coal and non-coking coal for which the tender is awaited. With these two technical tie-ups, we expect to emerge as one of the strong contenders for these washeries also,” he said. Last week, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Coal and Monnet have signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up a demonstration project using JIG technology, he said. “There will be a coal washery demonstration project of 2.2 million tonnes a year with JIG technology involving around Rs 45 crore, of which around Rs 15 crore would be in the form of grant from NEDO and we will be investing the remaining amount,” Mr Jajodia said.
