Reject ruinous leadership

It is the ruinous leadership of TMC leader Ms Mamata Banerjee and her thoughtless agitation outside the Tatas’ ‘Nano’ car factory, often with wanton violence and traffic obstruction, that compelled the Tata group to decide on relocating the plant elsewhere.

Mamata acted irresponsibly, with hardly a thought for the industrialisation of West Bengal, without which there can be no future for the workers of the State.

The days of living on the yield of land alone are gone. Without industries there cannot be more employment and increase in prosperity.

The acquired land cannot, and should not, be returned to the farmers, but used only to set up industries. Unprincipled political leaders need to be taught a lesson for their misguided politics, which can only result in more suffering for the poor.

The State government should wean away the landowners incited by Mamata and get them rehabilitated by fresh economic initiative.

Needed, support of masses

The country must applaud Mr Narendra Modi for the dynamism and leadership revealed in bringing the Nano project of the Tatas to Gujarat. Certainly, India today needs such leadership for bringing it close to world standards in performance and achievements.

In a democratic country like India, the leaders need to enjoy the support of the masses and should be able to communicate effectively with the citizens to implement the projects. Perhaps, the strength of Mr Modi is that people are convinced that he is honest and his intentions are good and he is able to carry the people with him.

Mr Budhdhev Bhattacharjee has lofty intentions but, obviously, he has not been able to communicate with the masses. We need to keep in mind that hardly 5,000 persons protested against the Singur project in West Bengal, in a State whose population is more than 60 million. Still, the West Bengal Chief Minister was unsuccessful in pushing through this project.
