Research & Development Glenmark asthma compound trials Mumbai, Oct. 10 Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd has started the second phase of human trials on its lead molecule Oglemilast (GRC 3886) targeting asthma. The study to evaluate the efficacy of Oglemilast in the treatment of asthma will enrol approximately 230 patients in about 30 centres, a note from the company said. Oglemilast is at present also being studied in patients for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder in a multi-center Phase II trial by Forest Laboratories Inc, the licensee for Oglemilast in North America. The first novel compound from the Mumbai-based drug-maker, Glenmark had entered into $190-million collaboration with Forest Labs in September 2004 for the development and commercialisation of this compound in the North American market. And when the compound does indeed get commercialised, Glenmark is also eligible to get royalty payments from Forest on net sales of the product, besides being the supplier of the active pharmaceutical ingredient to Forest. Glenmark has a similar collaboration agreement for Oglemilast with Teijin Pharma Limited for the Japanese market. Glenmark shares were marginally up, at Rs 357 on the BSE. - Our BureauMore Stories on : Research & Development | Pharmaceuticals
