Education States - Andhra Pradesh NIT-Warangal to invest Rs 100 cr in upgradation Our Bureau Hyderabad, Oct. 10 The National Institute of Technology, Warangal, will invest Rs 100 crore over the next two years in upgradation of its infrastructure. The institute, which has already invested Rs 100 crore this year for facility upgradation, is now planning to set up modern e-classrooms, interactive lecture halls and new academic halls, among others. “Our goal is to build an iconic institution that will sync with future by making rapid changes which will add institutional value and build confidence amongst our students and its faculty,” Dr Y.V. Rao, Director, NIT-Warangal, said in a release. The institute, which is celebrating its golden jubilee year, is aiming at reaching the 5,000-mark in student intake by end of the XI Plan. Under its upgradation programme, it has added 1000-seat hostel to accommodate 2,500 students besides a 250-seat international students’ hostel. CENTRES OF EXCELLENCENIT has established new centres of excellence – the Centre for Automation and Instrumentation, Centre for Advanced Materials and a modern computer centre to accommodate 400 students. Besides, it is creating centres for Energy and Environment, Innovation and Incubation and a Knowledge Centre. NEW PROGRAMMESNew programmes will be introduced in ceramic technology, nanotechnology, biotechnology and energy management systems. Recently, courses under the M.Tech programme have been added to strengthen academic performances of the Institute in Information Security, Construction Technology and Management, Automobile Engineering, Advanced Communication systems. Currently, the institute has 3000 students and 200 plus teachers. It offers four year B.Tech degree in 8 engineering disciplines, two-year M.Tech programmes in 23 specialisations across the eight engineering departments.
