Outlook States - Maharashtra Pune gets a new wine restaurant today Our Bureau Pune, Oct. 10 Connoisseurs of wine in the city have a new location — The Sommelier. It’s a multi-brand domestic wine restaurant which is opening its doors to Puneites on Saturday. Talking to presspersons, Mr Jagdish Patil and Mr Vinod Deokar, partners, said this is the second outlet in the country. The first opened in Nasik a year ago. The Pune outlet, spread over 5,500 sq ft, has a seating capacity of 175. It is located at Baner, an upcoming locality in the city, and an investment of Rs. 1.5 crore has been utilised for setting it up. Mr Patil said The Sommelier would house domestic as well as international wines. It would also conduct activities such as wine education, trips to wineries and vineyards, and product launches. A food section would complement the wine selection, he said. The restaurant has already obtained the E2 license from the Maharashtra Government, which is allowed for the sale of wine only. It has tied up with twelve domestic players for the sale of their wines. Looking at the market potential, Mr Deokar Vinod said the wine industry is growing at 30 per cent per annum. The Pune market, according to the excise department, was about three lakh litres in 2006-07, he said. LoungesMr Jadgish said they would be opening a wine lounge at Koregaon Park, an uptown locality, with a seating capacity of about 50.
