Airlines Markets - Financial Markets
Our Bureau New Delhi, Oct 10 The slowdown in the global economy, especially in the US and the UK, is forcing several airlines from India to reschedule their international operations. The latest entrant to this group is Jet Airways which on Friday announced it will withdraw the five-times-a-week flight operated on the Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco sector from January 13. The airline is withdrawing the flight almost seven months after it was launched on June 14, this year. The airline operates a Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft and had recently cut the frequency of the flight from a daily to five times a week. “In light of the downturn in major economies worldwide, more especially in the US and the UK, Jet Airways plans to optimise its network, focusing more on its established gateways and routes. Passenger traffic between India and San Francisco will be served through the airlines London gateway in cooperation with partner airline,” the airline said in a statement. Despite the withdrawal, the airline will continue to have at least three daily departures from India to North America, including flights to John F. Kennedy and Newark airports in New York and Pearson airport in Toronto. The move of Jet Airways comes soon after Air India announced withdrawal of its three-times-a-week flight on the India-Frankfurt-Los Angeles sector.
