Tea Coonoor tea turnover up by 103% P.S. Sundar Coonoor, Oct. 12 Producers who sold their teas through the 39 auctions of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association have earned Rs 119.10 crore more in the nine months of this calendar, compared to last year. This was possible as a greater volume could be sold for a higher price, an analysis of the Market Reports reveals. VOLUME SOARSIn nine months, the volume sold increased to 3.83 crore kg from 2.58 crore kg. On an average, every kilo fetched Rs 61.26, against Rs 44.78. Consequently, the turnover rose to Rs 234.63 crore from Rs 115.53 crore. This marked an increase of Rs 119.10 crore or 103 per cent. CTC SOARSEarnings increased in respect of both the orthodox and CTC teas. In the case of CTC teas, which comprised the bulk of the sales, every kilo fetched on an average Rs 61.03 (Rs 43.80). At this high price, a higher volume of 3.58 crore kg were sold (2.37 crore kg). Orthodox tea prices averaged Rs 64.52 a kg (Rs 55.70). Volume sold rose to 25.47 lakh kg from 21.25 lakh kg.
