Power States - Tamil Nadu Coimbatore industrial units plan protest Our Bureau Coimbatore, Oct 12 Nearly 25,000-30,000 industrial units in and around Coimbatore will observe a day’s closure on October 22 demanding the implementation of electricity demand cut or energy cut, depending on the class of consumers, instead of the load shedding procedure resorted to by TNEB (Tamil Nadu Electricity Board), which has affected production schedules. The one day shutdown is expected to result in production loss of over Rs 1,000 crore. The industries also want the Government to enforce the power cut uniformly across the State so that the available power is shared equitably by all regions. The Government should consider the proposal of the industries to subsidise the cost of captive generation of power — the capacity of which is remaining idle with large industrial units in the State — which could help improve substantially the power availability. RATIONALISATION SOUGHTSpeaking to Business Line on Saturday after a meeting of 24 industrial associations of Coimbatore (which took the decision to observe a one day production stoppage) on Friday, Mr D. Balasundaram, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore, said the industrial sector was aware of the difficult power situation and accepted the power cut. However, it wanted the Government to enforce it through demand cut for HT industries and energy cut for LT sector and also rationalise power distribution across the State. He said TNEB resorts load shedding during different times, which hit the production schedule of industries, particularly the continuous process industries. More Stories on : Power | SSI | Tamil Nadu
