Kochi, Oct. 12 The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Kerala State Office organised a seminar on Reach jointly with Chemexcil, FIEO, Pharmexcil, Plexconcil, and Caopexil here.

Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach), is a new EU regulatory framework of the EU Commission which is aimed at improving the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the chemical substances.

Under this system, all EU producers and importers will have to perform a chemical safety assessment of their products and will have to provide information to their customers in the supply chain.

Accordingly, all exporters coming under Dyes, Chemicals and Cosmetics right from 1 tonne per year and above to EU will have to obtain registration, Mr P Bulsara, Dy. Advisor, (Tech), Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers, New Delhi said in his address.

The aim of Reach Implementation Project is to ensure an efficient implementation of the future legislation through development of guidance and IT tools for the agency, industry and the authorities – Mr Xavier Thomas Kondody, Co-Convenor, Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises Panel, CII Kerala State Council said. More than 40 delegates participated in the programme.
