`Encourage captive power units'

Madurai, Oct. 12

The Tamilnadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has urged the Government to encourage installation of captive power units by providing 75 per cent subsidy wherever biomass is utilised for power generation.

In a statement here, the association Secretary, Mr P. Subash Chandra Bose, said that the enforcement of power cut has affected both agriculture and industries, and the power and production costs have escalated - impacting the prices that the consumers have to pay.

To save the situation, the Government should encourage installation of captive power units, providing 75 per cent subsidy wherever biomass is utilised for power generation, he suggested. - Our Correspondent
