Rlys’ total earnings up 17.6% in first half


The total goods earnings have gone up by 20.19 per cent.

New Delhi, Oct. 13 Total earnings of Indian Railways touched Rs 38,374.2 crore during the first half this fiscal, registering a 17.64 per cent growth year-on-year.

This is supported by 20.19 per cent growth in freight earnings, which account for a whopping 68 per cent share of the total Railway earnings.

According to an official release, the total approximate earnings of Indian Railways during April 1 to September 30 was Rs 38374.20 crore against Rs 32,620.94 crore during the corresponding period last year. The total goods earnings have gone up by 20.19 per cent — to Rs 26141.99 crore from Rs 21751.41 crore.

The total passenger revenues during the first six months of the financial year 2008-09 were at Rs 10766.08 crore, up 13.21 per cent against Rs 9510.21 crore during the corresponding period last year.

The revenue earnings from other coaching activities amounted to Rs 955.64 crore during April-September (Rs 903.83 crore), an increase of 5.73 per cent.

The total sundry earnings have gone up to Rs 510.49 crore during April-September 2008, an increase of 12.07 per cent.

The passenger bookings went up by 6.96 per cent touching 3537.06 million (3306.76 million).
