Hyderabad, Oct. 14 The National Small Industries Corporation Ltd (NSIC) is looking at creating exhibition-cum-marketing development business parks (EMDBP) across the country.

“These parks will come up in and around the centres and offices where land is available. In places where we do not have land we are looking at forging alliances with the private sector and build the EMDBPs on a PPP mode,” Dr H.P. Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, NSIC, told Business Line on the sidelines of an event here on Tuesday.

Dr Kumar was in the city in connection with the foundation stone laying ceremony of the first EMDBP, the idea which was conceptualised two years back, being set up by the Corporation at NSIC’s Technical Service Centre.

“This facility will be operational within the next one year and we are investing around Rs 28 crore on the project,” he said.

According to Dr Kumar, the next EMDBP will come up in Delhi with an estimated investment of Rs 85 crore and will be operational by 2010.

Though, NSIC has identified Kolkata and Chennai as the other locations for the parks, Dr Kumar said that work on them is yet to begin.

He said that EMDBPs were being created in order to enhance the marketing of the products manufactured by the MSME sector. “It will be a centre to provide exhibition space for the MSME sector who cannot afford putting up stalls in big exhibitions. Also it will help the small units set up marketing offices and organise buyer-seller meets,” Dr Kumar said.

NSIC, which last year recorded a turnover of Rs 2,950 crore expects a 40 per cent jump this fiscal to touch Rs 4,100 crore. Dr Kumar also said that last year the Corporation helped in facilitating credit of nearly Rs 400 crore, and is looking at increasing the target to around Rs 550 crore this year.
