KWA revenue collection to be intensified

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct.15

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) will take strong steps to speed up revenue collection from consumers.

The Minister for Water Resources, Mr. N.K. Premachandran, said that water connection of all consumers, who had not responded to the notice for changing the meters within the prescribed time limit, would be cut.

The entire cost for disconnection and re-connection, if applied for, will be levied from the consumers.

The Minister said that as part of the steps to intensify revenue collection, KWA would implement ‘Advance Bill Accounting and Complaint Utility System (Abacus) in all the collection centres in the State.

The efficiency of a division will be decided based on the volume of water supplied in the area and the revenue collected for it. Action will be initiated against erring officers.

Spot billing

KWA will introduce spot billing method and ensure faultless working of the metres. Besides, individual ledgers will be prepared for each consumer, which will be updated periodically incorporating the latest details.

The Minister said that the meters and water consumption of non-domestic, industrial and apartment consumers would be monitored at the executive engineer level. KWA will hold ‘adalats’ in all the 14 districts to recover arrears.
