Bangalore, Oct. 15 Bharti Airtel Ltd, the country’s largest private sector telecom operator, has entered into a technology tie-up with Infosys Technologies Ltd to roll out its Direct-to-Home (DTH) television services.

Infosys, through its digital convergence platform, will offer a suite of products including devices, application servers and interactive applications for Airtel’s DTH services.

Announcing the tie-up on Wednesday, both companies declined to disclose the commercial aspects of the deal. Bharti started its DTH services in 62 cities on October 9.

Mr S. D. Shibulal, Chief Operating Officer, Infosys, said the software vendor would licence the digital convergence platform to Bharti Airtel, but would own the intellectual property for the products.

Mr Atul Bindal, President – Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel, said both companies have embarked on a long-term strategic alliance through the partnership, which will help the telecom operator to provide digital lifestyle applications on its DTH service.

These include interactive applications and non-intrusive applications such as widgets through which one can customise the information.

Through its DTH, Bharti will also offer local city information through interactive applications such as iCity and iNet, personalised stock quotes, breaking news, horoscopes, cricked scores and shopping deals.

The Bharti deal is one of the significant wins for Infosys which is trying to focus on the Indian market in a big way, where customers are making huge investments in deploying technology to be competitive and cut costs.

Infosys is now exploring opportunities in the private sector, Government and banking sector to drive its growth in the Indian market, Mr Shibulal said.
