Star Aviation to get Embraer jets from March

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Oct. 16 The $5.2-billion turnover Brazilian commercial jet maker Embraer will start supply of its commercial jet to the recently formed Star Aviation from March 2009.

The Star Aviation has ordered for seven Embraer 170 jets for its fleet, according to Mr Orlando Jose Ferreira Neto, Managing Director, Embraer, Asia Pacific.

Already, Paramount Airways has bought five commercial jets from the Brazilian company, a few of them are in use.

Embraer, which has a good presence at the ongoing India Aviation Meet, sees big potential for the short haul jets with capacity ranging between 70 and 110, Mr Orlando told newspersons here today.

The company has a firm order book of 30 of these commercial jets for India (including the seven of Star Aviation). Interestingly, InVision Projects, a Mumbai-based company has bought 20 of the Phenom 300 aircraft. Aviators India also has two orders for the same jet.

The Brazilian company is also optimistic on selling its executive jets to corporates, high net worth individuals and is exploring further business opportunities in the defence sector.

In the defence sector, Embraer has signed up with Indian Government for the sale of three AEW & C (Airborne Early Warning & Control) jets. The delivery is scheduled to start from 2011 with one jet a year, Mr Orlando said.

He said with the Indian air transportation depending strongly on narrowbody aircraft (with size of 145 to 175 seats) and the regional aviation set to grow, the company sees immense potential in the future. While joint venture for manufacture or providing aviation services with an Indian partner was not on its immediate agenda, it was engaging the management for a long-term consideration.
