Spot rubber prices improve

Aravindan

Kotayam, Oct. 18 Spot rubber finished firm on Saturday. RSS 4 improved to Rs 85 a kg from Rs 84 as covering groups remained moderately active on the grade. According to sources, marginal selling from dealers and growers was absorbed by covering purchases at lower levels. The trend was mixed. The domestic prices improved by Rs 4 a kg despite all the adverse conditions and reports during the week. Sheet rubber which was traded at Rs 81 a kg on Monday last bounced back to Rs 86 a kg on Tuesday followed by short covering but fell back to Rs 84 a kg on Wednesday before concluding at the quoted level in the weekend session. Though there was no considerable selling pressure from the producing sector below Rs 90 a kg, the prices slipped mainly on buyer resistance as there were no enquires from the major consuming industries for the grade.

Spot rates were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 85 (84); RSS-5: 82 (81.50); ungraded: 80 (78); ISNR 20: 79 (79) and latex 60 per cent: 67.50 (67.50).
