Rajasekhara Reddy, directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan to ensure seven-hour power supply to the farm sector during the ensuing rabi crop season. With the likelihood of increased demand from the farm sector mainly due to pump sets drawing groundwater, the Government plans to initiate a concerted effort to ensure additional supply and help farmers meet their agriculture requirements. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office on Sunday, Dr Reddy reviewed the power situation with the Power Minister, Mr Mohd Ali Shabbir, and officials of the power sector and wanted that an action plan be prepared to ensure adequate power supply to farm sector. Outlining the efforts taken by the State Government to augment additional power generation, Dr Reddy said the State would be able to add about 9,000 MW of additional capacity in 3 to 4 years if firm gas supplies are provided to gas-based plants and also new capacities now under way are completed. The State Government had initiated efforts to establish a 2,000-MW nuclear power plant in Kadapa. More Stories on : Power | Andhra Pradesh
