Education States - Andhra Pradesh Columns - BL Club Mr K. Pandu Ranga Rao, IVRCL Infrastructure; Malla Reddy Institute of Management, Dulapalli Our Bureau Hyderabad, Oct. 19 In the current era of economic slowdown and increasing focus on talent, positive attitude will hold the key for success in any profession. This was the advice extended by Mr K. Pandu Ranga Rao, Group Head (HR & Administration), IVRCL Infrastructure and Projects Ltd. Addressing the management students at Malla Reddy Institute of Management, Dulapalli, in a lecture organised by the Business Line Club here, Mr Rao drew parallels from the epic Ramayana and said: “In the Ramayana, Ravanasura, the villain, is the embodiment of negative thinking while Rama personifies positive thinking.” “The adverse impact of negative thinking is so much that it kills the initiative in your colleagues too. If your friend or a colleague is displaying a negative attitude always, you should not think twice to keep him at bay or totally avoid him,” he said. In taking professional and personal decisions, it is imperative to draw a line between the emotions and reasons. “There should be a balance between the heart and the head while making a key professional decision. Because, in the corporate world, wrong decision will cost you a lot,” he warned. The positive thinking, coupled with proper application reason, would act as a stress buster in the workplace. “For example, if your boss or colleague abuses you or takes you to task for no mistake, it is not advisable to return the same token immediately. Instead, you should what made him behave like that in a specific context,” Mr Rao said. Referring to the role of ‘luck’ in career, he said it is only right attitude together with an ability to zero in on the opportunities would matter for success but not luck per se. Later while responding to questions of the students, he said the challenges of retrenchment or sacking by the employer, confidence and honesty would be of great use.
