TNEB urged to have online facility for bill payment

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Oct. 19 Tuticorin-based the All India Chamber of Commerce and Industries has urged the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to consider the payment of electricity bills online.

The Chamber President, Mr J.P. Joe Villavarayar, in a letter addressed to Mr Machendra Nathan, Chairman, TNEB, has said that taking advantage of the information technology revolution, many public utility services have gone online. The Passport Department has announced the issue of e-passport from 2009 and the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation is working on the possibilities of issuing e-tickets.

With a large consumer base, it was time for the TNEB to go online and the move would reduce the workload for the personnel and make the process fast and easy. This would enable the consumers to pay the bills at their convenience and minimise the last minute rush in front of the counters, he said and requested the Chairman to look into the possibilities of TNEB going online and take necessary action in the matter in the overall interest of the public.
