AP to extend maternity benefit to 5 lakh building workers

Hyderabad, Oct 20 Five lakh women construction workers will get maternity benefit to the tune of Rs 5,000 for each confinement (for two confinements only) from the Andhra Pradesh Government. The Andhra Pradesh Government on Monday decided that the Andhra Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board will pay Rs 10,000 a worker.

This benefit is being provided in addition to the maternity benefit being paid by the State Government and three months wages under the Maternity Benefit Act.

A release from the Chief Minister’s office said that the scheme will have a total financial implication of Rs 5 crore a year on the board.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who held a review meeting on the issues relating to insurance of building and other construction workers and other unorganised labourers, asked the Labour and Employment Department to come out with a comprehensive health insurance scheme covering the entire range of construction and other unorganised workers in the State.

IMPLEMENTAION of G.O. 610

At a separate meeting, Dr Reddy directed that a white paper on the implementation of G.O.610 should be released after a detailed meeting under his chairmanship on November 20.

At a review meeting on Monday, Dr Reddy said that it would be the last meeting on the implementation of G.O.610 and that no more delay in this regard will be allowed.

The Chief Minister also reiterated that supernumery posts to the extent of non-locals (other than Telangana districts) to be repatriated from Zone V and VI to other zones (non-Telangana districts) will be created and recruited.
