Tata Sky offers discount on PVR package

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Oct. 21 Tata Sky will be offering its existing consumers 40-50 per cent discount if they chose to upgrade to the new personal video recorder (PVR) expected to be available very soon.

The Rs 8,999 set top box, which is set to free families sharing a television from having to compromise on their favourite shows by recording the programme, can be exchanged with existing STBs for around half the price, depending on what package the consumer subscribes to. Claiming a consumer base of 2.7 million, the company says it has benefited from the vigour enthused into the sector from the entry of new players. According to Mr Vikram Kaushik, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Tata Sky, they would be adding a good quarter of a million subscribers this month alone.

The ‘Tata Sky+’ STB, or PVR, which will be made available beginning with metros and other big cities, offers the same packages available to existing consumers. A Rs 50 recording charge is currently being waived off. In the future, Tata Sky Plus subscribers who will be encouraged to take on long-term and recharge “hassle free” packages could contribute more compared to the regular subscriber, said Mr Kaushik.
