Maditssia to observe strike today

Madurai, Oct. 21

The Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries’ Association (Maditssia) along with 18 sector-wise associations will be observing a one-day hunger strike and closure of units in Madurai districts to register their protest against the power cut announced by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) on Wednesday. Mr P.T. Krishnamoorthy, Maditssia President, in a statement here said that due to the power cut to the extent of 9 1/2 hours, small-scale units were unable to run the manufacturing units even for a single shift and faced acute difficulties in keeping up their commitments. More than 20,000 units in the district were in a critical stage and are the verge of closing, resulting in huge loss of manpower, labour charges and raw materials..
