Maruti begins KB series engines production

Our Bureau

New Delhi, Oct. 21 Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday commenced production of its KB series of engines to offer more fuel efficient and powerful technology cars to its customers. This is part of the company’s drive to achieve sales of one million units in the domestic market by 2010-11.

The company would equip its new model A-star, which will be launched next month and exported early next year onwards with the new engine. It also plans to equip other models with KB series of engines over a period of three to five years.

“The new engine series is an important step towards attaining the target sales of a million units in the domestic market by 2010-11. The operational capacity of our plant has reached the one-million mark,” said Mr Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki India.

“The new engine is highly fuel efficient and is best in refinement and performance. It will take engine technology to the next level in India.”

The new plant, which is a part of the Rs 9,000-crore investment plans, has a capacity of producing 2.4 lakh engines a year.
