TCS confident of meeting hiring targets

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Oct. 22 Inspite of a slowdown in the US, TCS has said that it is on course to meeting its annual hiring target of 30,000 to 35,000.

The Tata group company is ahead of its hiring target for the half year ended September 2008 as it added 18,664 in that period, according to Mr Ajoy Mukherjee, Vice-President, Head, Global Human resources.

For the quarter just ended, the company made 5,328 net additions, he said. Gross additions stood at 9,682 employees of which 6,673 were trainees and 1,587 lateral recruits in India.

About 1,422 employees were added in overseas subsidiaries and branches. The total employee base is 1,21,610 professionals and 52 per cent of the work force has more than three years of experience.

Utilisation rate (excluding trainees) improved to 81.1 per cent while the attrition rate was up to 13.2 per cent. This was largely due to the attrition rate of 22.7 per cent in TCS’ BPO practice.
