Education States - Tamil Nadu Scope Intl, IIT-Madras partner for financial course Our Bureau Chennai, Oct. 24 Scope International, a subsidiary of Standard Chartered Bank, UK, has partnered with IIT-Madras to offer a 40-hour course on financial markets. This is to provide MBA students expertise in applying technology in the financial markets. Leveraging upon the expertise of professors of the Department of Management Studies at IIT Madras, 20 hours of the elective course has been developed by Software Solutions, a unit of Scope International and the IT arm of the StanChart group. The course will also help students in laboratory research in financial re-engineering, security and new technologies. This is part of StanChart’s agenda to nurture industry-institute interaction and develop skilled human resources in a niche area, Mr Akshaya Gaur, Head, Software Solutions, told newspersons. StanChart will consider bringing its innovation lab (iLab) to India. This could possibly happen in the next 12 months, Mr David Awcock, Group Head of Technology, told Business Line. iLab has a collaboration with Singapore Management University and set up an innovation centre at the University. Prof M.S. Ananth, Director, IIT Madras, said this was the institute’s first agreement with a bank as part of the industry-academia relationship. On the IIT Research Park, Prof Ananth said it is likely to be inaugurated in December. Out of the three buildings one is nearing completion. The Tata Group has taken 30,000 sq. ft of space in the park, and its group company Tata Consultancy Services has also taken space, he added.
