Hyderabad Metro short-lists 6 for Independent Engineer

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Oct. 24 Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMR) has short-listed six players in the process of selecting the Independent Engineer, the arm that would ensure design compliance and safety aspects.

The company received EoIs (expressions of interest) from 13 international players. “The proposals were evaluated by a committee comprising Mr N. Ramesh Kumar (Principal Secretary – Finance) and Mr G. Asok Kumar (Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Water Board),” Mr N.V.S. Reddy, Managing Director of HMR, said here in a press release.

The pre-qualified six consortia would go to the next stage where they would submit request for proposal (RFP) that includes technical and financial bids.

Consortia

The consortia that were short listed are: AECOM (Hong Kong) and Aarvee Associates (India), Lahmayer International (Germany); DB International (Germany), SMEC International (Australia); Louis Berger (US) and RITES (India); Mott MacDonald (UK), Tecnica (Italy); Net Engineering (Italy); and Scott Wilson Railways (UK), EPC consultants (US).

“Independent Engineer will have to check the designs and drawings submitted by the developer. They will inspect and monitor the quality of construction works, test the rolling stock and ensure compliance of safety standards,” Mr Reddy said.

And, after all the checks, they would issue a ‘completion certificate’ for the metro rail system. This would be followed by mandatory safety tests by the Railways, paving the way forcommercial operations.
