Shipping/Ports New maritime training centre Gateway Terminals India Pvt Ltd (GTI), a joint venture between APM Terminals belonging to AP Moller-Maersk Group of Denmark and India’s Container Corporation of India operating a modern container terminal in Jawaharlal Nehru port, recently launched on its campus a Talent Development Centre, a state-of-the-art training facility for the maritime sector. The objective of the centre is to develop fresh talent as world-class maritime professionals. The training centre is designed to provide hands-on experience in terminal environment and the training programme will include operational equipment training, lasher training with anchor wands fall arrestor usage, terminal transport training for tractor trailer drivers and container lasher training. Complete with world-class simulator training tool for all three crane types — RMQC, RMG and RTG — the training centre can accommodate 55 people. GTI, according to sources, has plans to empower the centre to develop cutting-edge professionals for the maritime sector. Meanwhile, GTI, as sources pointed out, has also launched safety programmes covering workshops and training not only for its employees but also for its various stakeholders, such as customers and contractors.
