Hyderabad, Oct 26 Integrity and a common set of values are vital for success in sales and marketing endeavours, according to Mr Ravi Kumar Peesapati, Treasurer, Hyderabad Management Association (HMA).

Addressing the students in a lecture on ‘Issues and Challenges in Sales and Marketing’ at KRRIIT, Ghatkesar, organised by the Business Line Club here on Friday, Mr Kumar said the marketing is a unique profession that requires exceptional people skills, special competencies and attitudes that are not generally found in other careers.

The professionals engaged in sales and marketing should be ready to face and solve (rather) ‘never-ending’ finance and customer related problems which rise and fall at every new initiative that is undertaken.

The challenges can be at different levels. The conceptual research for a particular product/item should be done at an organisational and a range of traits may help the executives at a personal level to be successful in career, he said.

“In this context, project works, industrial tours, extra curricular activities such as physical fitness drives, yoga, spending time in library and reading professional papers/magazines/books etc., interacting with the senior academicians etc., and participating in lecture programs of general nature may be of great help,” he said.

It is always advised to choose a profession that best suits one’s skills which would a passion to excel. “This will help us give our 100 per cent in what we do,” he added.

To achieve success at a team level, supporting Leadership, inter-personal relationships, communication skills, and inter-departmental relationship building are vital, Mr Kumar said.

“Finally, discipline is the ability to do things out of free will, much before they become a compulsion. This should be practiced with vigour,” he added.
