Madurai Spinners body seeks subsidised kerosene, diesel

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Oct. 26 Madurai Spinners Association has pressed for supply of super kerosene oil (S.K.O) or H.S. diesel at subsidised rates from the Tamil Nadu Government.

In a release here, the association said that with a power production capacity of 3,500 MW through generators available with the mills in the State, the shortfall in the generation of power could be adjusted if the government directly supplied S.K.O. or H.S.D. at import cost.

Notwithstanding the fresh announcement on power cuts by the government, the situation would still meet only 50 per cent of the requirement of the spinning sector and force them to fall sick. It would be very difficult to revive the sector again. While the new announcement is welcome, it would not be sufficient to keep the sector going. At 95 per cent efficiency alone, the sector will be able to functionally perform well, it said.
