Meet on mechanical engg

A three-day national conference on `Advances in mechanical engineering', organised by the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of Manipal Institute of Technology, began at Manipal on Tuesday. Dr Rajasekharan P. Warrier, Vice- Chancellor of Manipal University, suggested that research should be directed to benefit the people at the grass-root level. Dr Sandeep Sancheti, Director of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, said that institutions should take up joint ventures to bring about a revolution in the way research is carried out. Dr S.S. Pabla, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University and Director of Manipal Institute of Technology, also spoke. - Our Bureau
