Time for reform

The article “Falling oil prices: Grab the opportunity for reform” (Business Line, October 29) presents the Government with an opportunity to push through painless reform and free the products from administrative pricing mechanism.

However, there is some confusion when one looks at the pricing of ATF, which is sky high, despite being outside the APM.

Unless taxes and duties are rationalised and not viewed as a vital tool to raise government revenue, riding piggy-back on a price cut and freeing petroleum product pricing may not work.
