Our Bureau Mumbai, Oct. 31 Shipping Corporation of India’s new VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) ‘Desh Viraat’ collided with a small cargo vessel on its maiden journey off Korea on Wednesday. While company officials confirmed the collision, they said no further information has been received from the vessel. According to a media report, the vessel collided with a Cambodian cargoship which sank, but all its 12 Vietnamese and Chinese crew members were rescued by the Korean coast guard. SCI informed the Bombay Stock Exchange on Friday that the company has taken “physical delivery” of its VLCC vessel of 3,19,000 DWT capacity. However, the statement remains silent on the collision incident. Meanwhile, media report said the vessel is anchored at Busan pending investigations. Quoting Directorate of Shipping, India, the report said the vessel has 36 Indian crew members and was making its first voyage from Okpo to Yosu in Korea.
