New promoter keen to reopen Punalur Paper Mill

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 1 Prospects of reopening of Punalur Paper Mill, which has been lying closed for over 21 years, have brightened with a new promoter, based in Andhra Pradesh, showing interest in taking over the mill.

The representatives of the management and employees trade unions held a meeting here to take stock of the new development.

The Minister for Labour, Mr P.K. Gurudasan, who presided over the meeting, said that the procedures for the takeover of the mill by the promoter should be transparent.

The Minister made it clear that the relief and concessions to be extended to the new promoter would be decided by the Industries Department.

The trade union leaders and the people’s representatives, who also attended the meeting, promised support for the reopening of the mill, the package for which will be prepared at a meeting being convened on November 7.
