Bengal gets proposals for industries on Singur land

Our Bureau

Salboni (West Midnapore), Nov. 2 The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, said here on Sunday that the West Bengal Government had received several proposals from a cross-section of industrialists keen to set up industries on the Singur land vacated by Tata Motors.

He, however, declined to give the details of the proposals received, saying “We’ll make an announcement in this regard in due course.” Mr Bhattacharjee was talking to newspersons at the ground breaking ceremony of JSW Bengal Steel Ltd.

The Chief Minister ruled out any problem in getting the land back from the Tatas. “We’ll get it back when we want,” he said.

Earlier, while addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister castigated those who opposed industrialisation and forced the Tatas to leave the State. “We want both agriculture and industry,” he said, adding “industrialisation of the State is a must because the young people want jobs.”

The district of West Midnapore, lagging in industrialisation, would soon become a hub of industrial activity and JSW Bengal Steel would act as the catalyst for change, he added.
