‘Indian banks are well regulated’

Confidence in the banking system is impacted by the ongoing turbulence in the financial world, according to Mr Ananthakrishna, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Bank Ltd. Addressing the bank’s regional heads’ review conference here on Monday, he said that the banks in India are well regulated and very well controlled. “It should be our endeavour to infuse and improve the confidence of the people in the banking system which cannot be immune to the global financial crisis,” he said. Mr Ananthakrishna appealed to the regional heads to work with caution in the matter of credit expansion, and stressed for thrust on expansion of credit under SME sector. A bank release said here that eight regional heads and their deputies and executives from head office attended the review conference.
