Hardware IBM unveils products, services for cloud computing Our Bureau Bangalore, Nov. 4 International Business Machines Corp said it launched new storage hardware, software and services that will enable enterprises to access data in a cloud computing environment. Cloud computing allows users to access technology-enabled services from the Internet. It includes technologies such as software as a service and Web 2.0. The company said more than 30 new and upgraded products and services are being introduced across the IBM portfolio that will open doors to on-demand storage technologies, which is key to the emergence of cloud computing. IBM said it introduced products enabling Internet Scale Availability, which would give businesses cost-effective technologies so that they are prepared for this new phase of cloud computing. It also announced a series of products and offerings enabling data centre consolidation and retention, and enhanced its compliance disk storage offerings, it said in a statement. The company said the new portfolio is backed by an investment of $2 billion over three years with 2,500 IBM researchers and developers around the world, including India. According to IBM estimates, with the proliferation of the mobile Web, an average individual’s information footprint will grow from 1 terabyte (about 50,000 trees cut and printed) a year to more than 16 terabytes by 2020. Infrastructures need to adapt to meet this demand, the company said. More Stories on : Hardware
