Plea for uninterrupted power supply

Our Correspondent

Madurai, Nov. 4 The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board should ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the day for industrial units, on implementation of the new proposal on power cut from November 1.

Only then will industrial units be able to plan their production, minimise wastages and secure quality in end products, a communication from Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said.

The release, while welcoming the announcement of a regulated power cut that would ensure at least 20 hours of power supply for domestic connections, has demanded that power supply should not be snapped for any reason between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. daily.

As power cuts have been announced for low tension-current transformer (LTCT) connections also, the restriction on drawing power from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board during peak hours by SSI units should be removed or a subsidy granted to them for using diesel generators during that period to save them from severe hardships.

Kerosene option

To facilitate the smooth functioning of large industrial units with high tension connections, the State Government should seek permission from the Union Government for large industrial and commercial units to import superior kerosene from abroad to run their generators, the release added.
