Bangalore, Nov. 4 Overnight, the centre of gravity of California-based network security solutions leader SonicWall’s global engineering and technical support activities seems to have shifted to India: On Tuesday, the company inaugurated a new 230-strong facility here that will address round-the-clock tech support to over 2,20,000 of its installations worldwide, even as a core group works to hone security solutions for tomorrow.

The move also sees Mr Abhay Solapurkar, Vice-President for Worldwide support, shift his base to India, where he will also be designated General Manager for the operations in this country.

The Indian market, is SonicWall’s fastest growing – and while Frost and Sullivan estimates the security market here to be growing at around 14.7 per cent, the company has managed to double business, year on year, explained Mr Douglas Brockett, Vice-President and General Manager. The sharp ramp up in India is explained in part by SonicWall’s acquisition of Aventail – a leader in the Secure Socket Layer- Virtual Private Network space – which helped the company acquire a large Indian footprint as well as core engineering muscle.

SonicWall’s solutions have been cannily angled at the small and medium sector, where the company has pole position – but in recent years it has been enlarging its target customer base to include larger outfits.
