PM heads panel to look into industry woes

New Delhi, Nov. 4 The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will head an apex committee, which has been formed to assess the concerns of the industry, a release here said.

The Prime Minister had yesterday assured industry captains that a high-powered committee will be set up look into the industrial slowdown and the impact of global financial crisis.

The panel will comprise Finance Minister Mr P. Chidambaram, Commerce and Industry Minister Mr Kamal Nath, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Reserve Bank of India Governor Mr D Subbarao as members.

“The group will meet regularly to coordinate/decide the Government’s response to the points raised by industry...with regard to the current global financial crisis and its impact on India,” the said.

Other members of this committee will be Commerce Secretary, Industry Secretary and Secretary (Planning Commission). The Joint Secretary (Banking) at the Finance Ministry will be the Government contact person to receive suggestions from industry, the release said.
