Textiles India seeks Belgium aid to stop EU from hiking duty on bed linen Our Bureau New Delhi, Nov. 4 Concerned over the European Union’s proposal to increase the counter-veiling duty (CVD) on cotton-type bed linen, India on Tuesday urged Belgium to engage with the EC to resolve the issue. At a bilateral discussion between the Minister for Commerce and Industries, Mr Kamal Nath, and the Belgium Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Mr Karel De Gucht, Mr Nath pointed out that the EC proposal is to increase the CVD by expanding the scope of the exercise by including other schemes also. He sought Belgian intervention in the matter to resolve the issue, an official release said. Pointing out that India can provide skills and expertise in health, IT, engineering and services to Belgium, Mr Nath said that “a facilitative visa regime will be helpful in boosting indo-Belgian trade in services.” Belgium is among the top five trading partners of India in the EU and ranks 23rd in terms of of foreign direct investment inflow.
