Power States - West Bengal Power imports only if Govt foots the bill, says WBSEDCL Our Bureau Kolkata, Nov 5 West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) sees little prospect of bridging the power demand-supply gap in the State through imports from other States. “We do not resort to imports except during the festive season,” the WBSEDCL Chairman, Mr Malay Kumar De, said here today. He was addressing a meeting with Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce here today. “The states which are importing heavily are either reeling under a more severe power crisis than in Bengal or the state governments are footing the bill of high cost merchant power,” he said. “We may import power if the state government foots the bill,” he said adding that the distribution utility did not get any budgetary support from the government. Mr De also cited the apparent unplanned nature of the shortage in the State as another reason for not effecting any such deal. Tariffs While the tariff commission determined the latest WBSEDCL tariff on the basis of a projected exportable surplus of 5100 million units, the State witnessed a wide demand supply gap.
