Agilent to launch 2 new products

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Nov. 5 Agilent Technologies, the $5.4-billion, global measurement company plans to launch two new sample preparation products that promise to enhance next generation DNA sequencer workflow.

The new products called the “SureSelect DNA Capture Array and the SureSelect Target Enrichment System,” will be globally launched, including in India in the next 2-3 months, said Mr Chris Grimley, Senior Marketing Director (Genomics), of Agilent Technologies Life Science Unit.

The new products will allow next generation sequencer users to perform pinpointed sequencing of portions of the human genome. This would, in effect, mean a faster and cheaper method of getting the desired genetic information from the sample of an individual.

Currently, DNA sequencers rapidly sequence the entire genome, giving out large amounts of data. In a recent interaction with Business Line he said, Agilent has also been selected for a landmark Copy Number Variation (CNV) project covering 19,000 patients. The study’s goal is to gain a better understanding of 12 complex diseases, including breast cancer. The project was awarded by the Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium (WTCCC). It will use a highly-automated protocol which includes the use of the Velocity 11 Bravo robot for sample preparation.
