IT in commodity trading

With commodity markets turning volatile, need for managing risks has only increased to ensure that exposures in the market do no lead to bankruptcy of firms. It is here that information technology plays a key role and having the right software systems in place plays a crucial role, says Mr Manav Garg, CEO and Founder of EKA Software.

His company, for instance, has a software solution Commodity Trade and Risk Management that has been designed for commodity trading. “We are the only software company from India to have a product of this kind catering to global commodity markets,” says Mr Garg.

The software integrates both physical stocks and future contracts and updates the current exposure of a firm.

It also provides business intelligence, claims Mr Garg, to support management decision-making and real time analysis. Some of the popular firms in the commodities markets such as Louis Dreyfus, CHS and Noble group use the solution for managing risks. –
