Power States - Andhra Pradesh CM wants action plan on power demand-supply position
Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Our Bureau Hyderabad, Nov. 7 The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, today instructed AP Genco and AP Transco to chart out an action plan on demand-supply situation and seek Government approval for additional fuel and power purchase. This move was in the wake of rising demand requirement and to ensure seven-hour power supply to the farm sector and adequate supplies to other sectors. After a review meeting of the power sector today, Dr Reddy in a statement said there should be no power cuts, load relief or power tripping in the State for domestic, business and industrial sectors. Efficiency runDr Reddy stated that all the generating stations should be run at optimal level and necessary additional power purchase made from Central and other generating stations to bridge the demand-supply gap if any. While emphasising the need to ensure supply to the farm sector during the ensuing rabi crop season and later kharif, he directed the officials to lay down a plan of action and make upfront purchase plans. The Chief Minister said since cost of naphtha and coal have come down drastically, purchase plans for fuel needs should be completed in advance to ensure that all power projects work at optimal capacity. Till such time natural gas supplies are ensured, he directed gas-based projects to use naphtha. The price of naphtha, which was Rs. 74,000 a tonne, has now come down to 24,000, making it lot more affordable. AP Genco was asked to build buffer coal stocks for thermal units.
