Widening of roads along Vaigai

Madurai, Nov. 7

The Madurai Corporation has taken a decision to widen the roads laid on the embankments of the Vaigai under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. According to the corporation’s Superintending Engineer, Mr K. Sathivel, the road project, around 8 km on both sides between Arapalayam bridge and P.T. Rajan bridge off Anna Nagar, would be executed at an outlay of Rs 86 crore. The project would enable operation of bus services and help reduce congestion in th e interior parts of the city. The works would not hamper the flow of the river, he added.
