Tech Mahindra opens centre of excellence in UK

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Nov. 7 Tech Mahindra, a provider of solutions and services to the telecommunications industry, said on Friday it opened its sixth centre of excellence in South Tyneside, UK, to cater to an expanding European and North American client base.

The company said it invested about £3 million in phase-1 of the project, with an additional £2 million to be made in phase-2. The centre would generate 500 new jobs over the next three years.

One of the users of the services will be BT Plc, including its Global Services Division and BT South Tyneside Ltd, which has recently signed a £184-million contract on a major regeneration programme in the borough.

The centre will service Tech Mahindra’s clients specifically focused on delivering a number of government sector specific services in application development, application support and BPO services, the company said.

The order involves servicing the global external client base of BTGS. There is an alignment of interest between BTGS and Tech Mahindra to look at setting up a centre in the UK. One North East has awarded the company a Selective Finance for Investment grant of almost £2 million. South Tyneside Council will also provide financial and other support, the company said.

Mr Mahesh Nagaraj, Tech Mahindra’s Vice President-Strategic Initiatives, said, “South Tyneside was chosen as the location for the business expansion of Tech Mahindra based on a critical evaluation process and the key parameter that shifted the balance was the support from the council’s executive management team.”
